Prayers and Praise Info: There are cards in the pew racks (or chairs in Koinonia Room) for you to list any prayers or praises. Please include your name and the date that the person was added. Be sure to inform the church office of any changes or if the person needs to be removed. You may drop them in the offering plate during worship. CHURCH MINISTRIES

Our heartfelt sympathy is expressed to Barry and Cheryl Schneider and family upon the death of Barry’s brother, Garland Schneider, who passed away on November 27, 2017.

Candy House Making and Dinner: Join us this evening at 5:00 p.m. for dinner ($5.00 from Chile Rojo) and stay afterwards to make candy houses.  The Beacons will be joining in as well.

Choral Cantata:  Next week, December 17th, if seats are available, please sit in the sanctuary if you are able so that you will be able to enjoy the music of the Cantata fully.

Thank you! To all of the folks that came and assisted with getting the tree and wreaths put up and decorating at the church: Mike Branch, Wayne Barlow, Paul Belk, Carole Simpson, Jane Tesh, Mary Higgs, Suzanne Lewis-Brown, Lydia Taylor and Mary Ellen Goad. The church looks beautiful for the Christmas season!

Come to Sunday School!  There are two adult options.  The Odds and Ends Class meets across from the upstairs Men’s restroom.  This class follows a year-round curriculum and is led by Felton Godwin and others.  The Sunday Scripture class meets in the parlor. Contact Cecelia Belk for more information.  Classes start each Sunday between 9:45 a.m. and 10:00 a.m.

Keenagers: Tuesday, December 12th; Meet at the church at 10:00 a.m. We will head to the Wohlfahrt Haus for their Christmas show.

Beacon Angel Tree Shopping and Dinner: Wednesday, December 13th; Meet at the church at 5:00 p.m. and we will head to dinner and shopping for our Christmas angels. Bring $20 for your gift and extra money for dinner.

Bob Chilton Memorial Bible Study: Will meet on Thursday, December 14th, at 8:00 a.m. at Pages.  Join us for coffee and great discussion.

Faith Friends Advent Tales and Get Ready, Get Set, Worship Kids: Will meet on Thursday, December 14th, in the Fellowship Hall at 3:30 p.m.  The children’s choir will also meet during this time.

You’re invited! The congregation is invited to an informal cider/cookie open house on Saturday afternoon, December 16th at “Cousin Emma’s Bed and Breakfast Inn” (Suzanne Lewis Brown’s home) 501 South Main Street from 2-4 pm.  See Suzanne for details.

Longest Night Service:  Sunday, December 17th; 7:00 p.m. Perhaps this has been a hard year for you or you are having trouble getting into the ‘spirit’ of the season.  All are welcome to gather for prayerful worship of Jesus Christ, the Light of the world, who is with us even on this (symbolically) longest and darkest night of the year.  Childcare provided for infants through 2nd grade.

 Montreat Youth Conference: July 28th-Aug 4th, 2018; Any Beacons who are eligible to go to Montreat next year will receive a postcard in the mail.  The first deposit of $100 is due on Monday, January 15th.

FINANCIAL

2017 Year-End Contributions: All contributions must be received or postmarked by Friday, December 29th, 2017.  If you contribute by eGive, you should receive information regarding year-end procedures.  With the end of the year approaching soon, here is where the congregation’s giving stands versus the need.  $176,056 has been given of $209,340 pledged.  Please complete your pledge by the end of the year. As of November 30th, our total receipts are $200,200 vs. $243,000 budgeted. Thank you for your continued generosity

WITNESS

Friends Feeding Friends: Thursday, December 14th; 5:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church.  The following people are signed up to assist with this ministry that feeds the hungry in our community each week: Steven Lowe, Bob Keck and Bob & Sylvia Chilton.  We need additional volunteers.  If you’d like to assist, please see the signup sheet in the upstairs foyer.

Sympathy of the Congregation

Our heartfelt sympathy is expressed to the family of Dot Besore who passed away on Thursday, November 30, 2017, in Greensboro. Dot was born January 18, 1933.  A memorial service will be held Wednesday, December 6, 2017, at 12:00 noon at First Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Griffin Gatewood officiating. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 11:00 until 11:45 AM at the church.  A private inurnment will follow in the columbarium at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 1286, Mount Airy, NC 27030.

Get Ready! Get Set! Worship! (3rd-5th grade): Notebooks are in the upstairs foyer for our members and guests to use as we worship together.

Thanksgiving Feast: Join us immediately following worship today as we come together to celebrate our 10th Thanksgiving Feast together and give thanks for many things. The cost is $10 per person. Children 12 and under eat free.

Beacons: (6th-12th grade) Will meet in the Lighthouse this evening at 5:30 p.m. The Heath family will provide dinner.

Get Ready! Get Set! Worship! Kids: Will meet on TUESDAY, November 21st in the Fellowship Hall at 3:30 p.m.

Church Office Closed: Thursday, November 23rd and Friday, November 24th, so that the staff can celebrate Thanksgiving with their families.

WITNESS

Thanksgiving Meals: The Beacons raised enough money with their pumpkin sale to feed 17 families for Thanksgiving! YOU added to that and we now have enough to feed 57 families! You guys are awesome!

Salem Presbytery – Pennies for Hunger: Since 1989, Salem Presbytery has distributed more than THREE MILLION DOLLARS to feed hungry people locally and around the world! YOU have been part of that – with the Pennies for Hunger Offering we receive each month and we thank you. Yokefellow Cooperative Ministry received $3000 in grant money in 2017!

Beacons to Operation Christmas Child: On Saturday, November 25th; 6-10 p.m. The Beacons and their chaperones will be heading to Boone to assist with packing shoeboxes for children for Christmas. You must be 13 or older to participate in this event. See Sandy Bowers if you wish to go.

10th Annual Thanksgiving Feast

This coming Sunday, November 19th, we will come together to celebrate our 10th Thanksgiving Feast together. It will be held immediately following worship. Join us as we give thanks for many things.
