HOLY WEEK

During Holy Week, the church walks towards the cross with Jesus. He gives us the supper of his presence on Thursday. We abandon him at the cross of Friday, weep by his tomb on Saturday, and rejoice on Easter Sunday to find it empty and him alive. Holy Week begins today as we remember and re-enact Jesus’ triumphant entry into Jerusalem. Palms were a sign of royalty in Jesus’ culture. We wave palms as the crowd did long ago to declare Jesus as King.

Holy Week continues on Maundy Thursday when we remember three things: Jesus washed His disciples’ feet, He commanded them to love one another, and He gave disciples the Lord’s Supper. On Good Friday, we remember His death on the cross. On Holy Saturday, we remember that He was laid dead in the grave. And, on Easter Sunday, we celebrate His resurrection.
This is a week of a lot of church. These different services and celebrations invite us to re-enact the drama of Jesus’ triumphant entry, Last Supper, trial, death, and resurrection as a way of deepening our life in Christ and comprehension of the mystery and majesty of his passion. Come and see!

Palm Sunday– TODAY – Children, Beacons and any parents are invited to help re-enact Jesus’ Triumphant entry by participating in the Palm Sunday Processional. If you wish to participate, meet in the upstairs foyer at 10:45 a.m. on Sunday morning.

Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday of Holy Week– April 15, 16, 17 – Noonday Prayer- Join Griff in the sanctuary at 12:00 noon for a short service of scripture and prayers. The service will last about twenty minutes.

Maundy Thursday – April 18 – Communion Service 7:00 pm – Come remember and celebrate Jesus’ last meal with his disciples when he washed their feet and gave them the commandment: Love one another. Childcare provided.

Good Friday – April 19 – Tenebrae Service – 7:00 pm – Tenebrae means shadow or darkness. The Beacons will lead us as we hear the story of Jesus’ betrayal, trial, death and burial. As the story progresses, the sanctuary grows darker and darker. Childcare provided.

Church Office Closed – Good Friday, April 19 and Easter Monday, April 22.

Holy Saturday– April 20 – Noonday Prayer – 12:00 pm. Children’s Easter Party – 3:00 p.m.

Easter Sunday – April 21 – Worship begins at 10:00 am with the Flowering of the Cross. Please bring fresh flowers. There will be no Sunday school, afternoon or evening activities. One Great Hour of Sharing offering will be received.
