CHURCH MINISTRIES

There will be a Congregational meeting immediately following worship on Sunday, November 11th. The purpose of this meeting will be to elect the next class of elders.

From Griff: Good morning everyone! This morning I am in Durham. I am serving as part of the commission to ordain Chris Blumhofer as a Minister of Word and Sacrament. Chris most recently preached here this past June. He and his family have moved to Pasadena, California where he is teaching New Testament.

Today, various members will be leading in worship and one of our own, Bill Rountree will be preaching. Bill is long time member of FPCMA and a Certified Lay Pastor serving up on the mountain at Mary Horner Walker Presbyterian Church.

The Flowers in the Church today are given to the glory of God and in honor of Betty Jane King, who is celebrating her 91st birthday today by Ted and Gloria King.

Are you visiting with us? If so, we are glad to have you! A couple of things you may inquire about: 1) Restrooms are located in the upstairs foyer and hallway. 2) Nursery is available to children birth-2 that lasts the entire length of worship. Children age 3-Kindergarten can stay in worship for the Children’s sermon, then have the option of going to Children’s Church (more information in announcement below). If you have further questions, please see one of our ushers.

Texts for upcoming sermons: As we continue in First Corinthians, we will focus on Worship. This is the theme of the fourth section of the book. Here are the topics and the texts for different Sundays: November 4: Spiritual Gifts and the Upbuilding of the Body: 14:1-25; November 11: Order in Worship (Words):14:26-33; November 18: Women and Men Worshiping: 14:33-40

Beacons: (6th-12th grade): Will go to the Corn Maze this evening. We will meet at the church at 4:00 p.m. Cost is $5.00, which includes popcorn and a drink.  Hotdogs and nachos are available for purchase as well.

Walk through the Bible Sunday School Class: Join us each week from 9:45 to 10:45 each Sunday in the Fellowship Hall.  The class combines discussion, cool videos and reading the Bible in small groups. Childcare is available.  Griff is teaching this class.

Preschool to Kindergarten will be meeting in the room next to the nursery, 1st to 3rd Grade will be meeting in the Children’s Church room, and 4th and 5th Grade will be meeting in the Library. Children’s Church: Would you like to spend some quality time with a great group of kids learning and doing activities based on the Children’s Sermon message? If you are able to help at least one Sunday between the months of October through December, please see Valerie Parker or email at kids@fpcma.com. You may also sign-up on the Kid’s Corner board at the bottom of stairs (next to Children’s Church/Sunday School room). Two volunteers are needed each week. New Pew Bibles: New Bibles have been given in loving memory Shasta.  We would love to have several members who have nice handwriting to include a memo on the inside of the Bibles in Shasta’s memory.  If this is something you would be interested in, please contact the church office.

Daylight Savings Time: DON’T FORGET to set your clocks back by one hour before you go to bed on Saturday, November 3rd!

All Saints Day/Sunday: In every time and place, folks just like us- imperfect and broken- who have been made saints through Jesus Christ are called to offer their gifts for the enrichment and betterment of the church.   In this way we all share in the treasures and gifts so lavishly given by Christ to the church.  Next Sunday, November 4th, we will give thanks for all the gifts God has given us through all the saints in our midst and give thanks for all who have gone before us and celebrate the unity we have with such a great cloud of witnesses.   God works through ordinary people.  Thanks be to God.  If you have lost a loved one in the past year and would like their name mentioned in the prayers of the people, please email the church office at emailfpcma@gmail.com or call 336.786.2803.

Advent Devotionals: In recent years, we have ordered advent devotionals but have found that we have many left over.  We’d like to know if you are interested in receiving a devotional this year for the Advent season.  There is a sign-up sheet in the upstairs foyer.

Thanksgiving Meals: In years past, the Beacons have sold pumpkins during the Autumn Leaves Festival to feed the hungry in our community for Thanksgiving. Unfortunately, they were unable to get pumpkins this year due to all of the rain.  However, they know the need to feed the hungry is still there.  They had a bake sale to jump start the proceeds.  They would love to be able to feed 50 families.  Meals are $45.00 each.  If you would like to sponsor a family, please get a check or cash to Joy Barlow or Margaret McGuire by Thursday, November 15thPlease make your gift separate than you regular giving to the church.  If you are writing a check, make it to FPC Beacons.  Thank you for helping us feed the folks in our community as well as those at the Shepherd’s House & Children’s Center.

*Sadly, we will not be selling pumpkins this year. All of the rain severely damaged the crop and no extras are to be found.

SO……THE BEACONS WILL BE HAVING A BAKE SALE DURING AUTUMN LEAVES!!

If we have sufficient baked goods to sell, we will have it both Friday, October 12 and Saturday, October 13.  That’s where you come in!  Do you like to bake – cakes, cookies, cupcakes, breads, pies or anything of that nature?  If so, we need you!  The proceeds from the sales will go towards providing Thanksgiving meals to the hungry in our community.  Will you help us help them?  Anything delivered to the Fellowship Hall by Thursday, October 11, will be packaged for sale by the Beacons!
