Advent Wreath Workshop & Dinner

CHURCH MINISTRIES

There will be a Congregational Meeting immediately following worship on Sunday, November 26th. The purpose of this meeting will be to elect the next class of elders.

The Flowers in the Church today are given to the Glory of God and in loving memory of George and Cleta Rives and Tom Bagnal by The Rives family.

Our heartfelt sympathy is expressed to Terry, Gena and Rachel Ray on the death of Gena’s father, Robert “Bob” Cleveland Ray, who passed away on Saturday, November 11, 2017. Please keep the family in your prayers.

This class follows a year-round curriculum and is led by Felton Godwin and others. The Sunday Scripture class meets in the parlor. Contact Cecelia Belk for more information. Classes start each Sunday between 9:45 a.m. and 10:00 a.m.

Get Ready! Get Set! Worship! (3rd-5th grade): Notebooks are in the upstairs foyer for our members and guests to use as we worship together.

Thanksgiving Feast: Join us immediately following worship today as we come together to celebrate our 10th Thanksgiving Feast together and give thanks for many things. The cost is $10 per person. Children 12 and under eat free.

Beacons: (6th-12th grade) Will meet in the Lighthouse this evening at 5:30 p.m. The Heath family will provide dinner.

Get Ready! Get Set! Worship! Kids: Will meet on TUESDAY, November 21st in the Fellowship Hall at 3:30 p.m.

Church Office Closed: Thursday, November 23rd and Friday, November 24th, so that the staff can celebrate Thanksgiving with their families.

WITNESS

Thanksgiving Meals: The Beacons raised enough money with their pumpkin sale to feed 17 families for Thanksgiving! YOU added to that and we now have enough to feed 57 families! You guys are awesome!

Salem Presbytery – Pennies for Hunger: Since 1989, Salem Presbytery has distributed more than THREE MILLION DOLLARS to feed hungry people locally and around the world! YOU have been part of that – with the Pennies for Hunger Offering we receive each month and we thank you. Yokefellow Cooperative Ministry received $3000 in grant money in 2017!

Beacons to Operation Christmas Child: On Saturday, November 25th; 6-10 p.m. The Beacons and their chaperones will be heading to Boone to assist with packing shoeboxes for children for Christmas. You must be 13 or older to participate in this event. See Sandy Bowers if you wish to go.

10th Annual Thanksgiving Feast

This coming Sunday, November 19th, we will come together to celebrate our 10th Thanksgiving Feast together. It will be held immediately following worship. Join us as we give thanks for many things. Sympathy of the Congregation

Our heartfelt sympathy is expressed to Rick, Sara and Oren Bailey on the death of Rick’s mom, Dorothy “Dot” Bailey, who passed away early this morning, Monday, November 13th, 2017.  There will be a service in her hometown of Burlington sometime in December.  Please be in prayer for the entire family.

Our heartfelt sympathy is expressed to Terry and Gena Ray on the death of Gena’s father, Robert E. “Bob” Cleveland.  Bob passed away on Saturday, November 11, 2017, with his loving family by his side. Visitation will begin at 10:00am on Wednesday, November 15, 2017, in the sanctuary of First Baptist Church of Fort Valley, 209 South Miller Street, Fort Valley, GA. Funeral services will immediately follow at 11:00am, with Rev. Ed McQueen officiating. Burial will follow in Oaklawn Cemetery.  Please be in prayer for Terry, Gena, Rachel and the rest of the family.

Keenagers: November and December trips: Ava Gardner Museum – November 16th; (TODAY is the deadline to pay; tour is $12, lunch is on your own); Wohlfahrt Haus Christmas Show, TUESDAY, December 12th; if you have not paid, please do so today; ($42 includes everything).

Circle 1: Will meet on Tuesday, November 14th, at 10:00 a.m. in the Card Room at Ridgecrest Retirement Center.

Women’s Bible Study: This fall, First Presbyterian is hosting a women’s community Bible study on the Gospel of Mark. This is targeted to younger women but welcoming to all. It will meet in the Fellowship Hall at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesdays from September 13-November 15. Childcare will be available. Questions? Call Elizabeth at (610) 715-3688.

WITNESS

Thanksgiving Meals: The Beacons raised enough money with their pumpkin sale to feed 17 families for Thanksgiving!  Over the past couple of weeks, YOU added to that and we now have enough to feed 44 families!  We’d love to be able to feed at least 50 families?  There are so many in our community that won’t have a meal for their family like we will.  If you would like to sponsor a family, please get a check or cash for $44 to Joy Barlow or Margaret McGuire by Wednesday, November 15th. The meals will be given out on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving.   If you are paying by check, please make it separate than your regular giving to the church and make it payable to the FPC Beacons.  Thank you in advance for helping us feeding the folks in our community!

Congratulations! To Luke and Lizzie Morrison on the birth of their daughter, Eloise Erin “Ella” Morrison who was born on Monday, November 6, 2017.  Ella’s grandparents are Alison Johnson and Allen Johnson and David and Leigh Morrison.

Sympathy of the Congregation

Our heartfelt sympathy is expressed to Dave, Nancy and Joseph Dixon and Andrew Harris on the death of David’s mom, May Frances Bailey Dixon. She passed away on Friday, November 3, 2017. A memorial worship service will be held at 3:00 pm. Sunday, November 12, 2017 at the State Street Baptist Church in Cayce, SC. The family will be receiving friends from 2:00pm to 3:00pm in the Fellowship Hall.  In lieu of flowers, please send memorials to The May and Rodolph Dixon Foundation for Peru Missions, Inc.
