Update on Shasta

Dear Friends in Christ,

I write to you with a sad but a hopeful heart.

Shasta received a pathology report that confirmed ovarian cancer in the tumor that was removed from her abdomen.   This was an upsetting surprise for all of us because the initial indicators pointed towards a benign tumor.

However, I am hopeful.  The oncologist says that her prognosis is good.  In a month, she will begin six months of chemotherapy in order to eliminate any remaining cancer in her body.

I am sure that in the coming weeks there will be opportunities for you to show Shasta your love and concern.   You can sign up to take the Brown family a meal by clicking this link .   You can send an encouraging note to 169 Beechtree Circle.   But, above all please pray for Shasta.   Here is the text of a prayer we prayed together in worship on July 2nd.   Please join me in praying it daily for her.

God of heavenly powers,

by the might of your command

you drive away from our bodies

all sickness and all infirmity:

Be present in your goodness

with your servant Shasta,

that her weakness may be banished

and her strength restored;

and that, her health being

renewed, she may bless your

holy Name; through Jesus

Christ our Lord. Amen.

Parents, please tell your children, youth, and college students about Shasta.   She looks forward to meeting with the Faith Friends and their parents sometime in the coming month to explain to them and help them interpret the effects chemotherapy will have on her.

There will also be opportunities for all of us to help lend a hand with Faith Friends, Beacon, Keenagers and other wonderful ways that Shasta blesses our congregation.  More specific requests will be made in August.   If something is on your heart and mind already, please contact me.

Grace and Peace,

Griff

Pastor

First Presbyterian Church of Mount Airy
