Dear Friends in Christ,

Ash Wednesday is this Wednesday, March 1st. Ash Wednesday begins our journey through Calvary on Good Friday to the empty tomb on Easter morning. The church throughout the ages has called this season Lent. We will gather for worship in the sanctuary for a thirty to forty minute service this Wednesday night at 6:30. We will observe the Lord’s Supper and the imposition of Ashes (for those who would like to receive them).

CHURCH MINISTRIES

Montreat Youth Conference: Beacons, your first deposit of $100 is due to Shasta TODAY!

Annual Chili Lunch: Join us immediately following worship today and bring your favorite pot of chili to share. Donations will be accepted and will go towards the Beacon’s summer mission projects.

Beacons (6th-12th grade): Will meet in the Tiki Room this evening at 5:30 p.m.

Get Ready! Get Set! Worship! Will meet on Monday, February 27th, at 3:30 p.m.

New Members Class: If you have been attending FPCMA regularly and would like to consider joining the church, there will be a membership class soon. Please let Griff know you are interested by calling the office or sending an email to griff@fpcma.

Lenten Bible Study: Join Griff for a Bible Study beginning on Thursday, March 2nd from 10:15 to 11:15 in the Odds and Ends Room. Childcare will be available.

Ash Wednesday: Wednesday, March 1st; 6:30 p.m. in the sanctuary. There will be a simple supper beforehand at 6:00 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall. Cost will be $7 per person and $5 a child with a cap of $25 a family. Please RSVP for dinner by calling the church office or by filling out the enclosed form and dropping it in the offering plate. Childcare will be available.

Worship during Lent: There will be a worship service and Celebration of the Lord’s Supper each Wednesday night during Lent at 6:30 p.m. Each week we will meditate on one of the last seven words of Jesus on the cross. Please come to this service as a way to prepare our hearts to celebrate the joy of Easter. Childcare will be available.

Prayer Chain: If you would like to be emailed or send an email about matters of concern for which prayer has been requested, please let Shasta know.

First Steps Open Enrollment: First Presbyterian Church is currently accepting enrollment beginning March 1, 2017. This program is for toddlers ages 12 months (must be walking) up to age 2 (cannot turn 2 before August 31, 2017). Members of the church, currently enrolled children and their siblings have priority. WITNESS

Friends Feeding Friends: Thursday, March 2nd; Meet at First Baptist Church at 5:00 p.m. The following people are signed up to assist with this community meal ministry: Steven Lowe, Wayne and Joy Barlow, Bob and Sylvia Chilton, Bob Keck and Mike Gatchel.

Offering for Hunger and Hope: Next Sunday, March 5th, we will receive our Pennies for Hunger & Yokefellow offerings. The foods for the month of March are: Crackers and Peanut Butter.

Items for Yokefellow and the Shepherd’s House: We have an ongoing collection for both of these agencies. There is a basket in the upstairs foyer for Yokefellow and there are bins in the downstairs entrance for each. Please drop off any non-perishable goods in these locations. There are lists of the items that are most needed. Help us help those in our community!

The Congregational meeting and the Annual meeting of the Congregation has been postponed & will be held immediately following worship on Sunday, February 19th.

Our heartfelt sympathy is expressed to the family of Ed Anderson who passed away on Saturday, February 4th.

Our heartfelt sympathy is expressed to the family of Octavia Edwards who passed away on Saturday, February 4th. A memorial service will be held for her here today at 2:00 p.m. with a reception to follow.

Our heartfelt sympathy is expressed to Paul Belk and family on the death of Paul’s mother, Ann, who passed away on Sunday, February 5th.

Our heartfelt sympathy is expressed to the family of Mary Frances Good Tilley Belton, who passed away recently. A graveside service will be held on Monday, February 13th, at Oakdale Cemetery at 11:00 a.m.

Our heartfelt sympathy is expressed to Dave Petri and family on the death of Dave’s father, David Hugh Petri, who passed away on Wednesday, February 8th.

Beacons (6th-12th grade) to Grace Moravian: We will leave from the church parking lot at 5:15 p.m. to head to Grace Moravian as we gather to celebrate the “Soup”er Bowl tally.
