Prayers and Praises: There are slips in your bulletin for you to list any prayers and/or praises. Check out the bulletin board in the upstairs foyer outside the church office and place them there. You can also drop them in the offering plate. There is a box for any names that have been removed, but perhaps need to be added back.

CHURCH MINISTRIES

Faith Friends: If you were here on Tuesday of this week to make a special gift for Mom for Mother’s Day, stop by Shasta’s office to pick it up this morning.

Beacons: (6th grade & up) Will meet at the church at 4:00 p.m. this afternoon and travel to W-S for the Compassion Experience. This free event features an interactive journey through the true stories of children living in developing countries like the Philippines, Kenya, Uganda and the Dominican Republic. Bring money for dinner.

Stroke Support Group: Will meet in the Fellowship Hall on Monday, May 2nd, at 6:00 p.m. Note different time.

Circle 1: Will meet in the Card Room at Ridgecrest Retirement Center on Tuesday, May 3rd, at 10:00 a.m.

Hebrews Bible Study: If you are looking for a chance to study scripture in a small group setting, there will be a study of the Book of Hebrews that begins on May 8th during the Sunday school hour and will run throughout the summer. All are welcomed. Where the class will moving through the book, each week should stand alone. Come every week or drop in as you are able. Elizabeth Gatewood will be facilitating the class. The class will meet at 9:45 in the Fellowship Hall.

Blue Ridge CareNet Counseling Presents: “The Five Languages of Apology – When Sorry Isn’t Enough” featuring Gary Chapman, accomplished counselor, pastor, speaker and writer. The event will take place at Central United Methodist Church, 1909 North Main Street on Tuesday, May 24th. Dessert will served at 6:30 p.m. followed by the program at 7:30 p.m. If you are interested in attending and would like to purchase tickets, see Shasta or Jessica Hoerter.

Service Saturdays: If you are interested in participating in Service Saturdays in any way & have not filled out a survey yet, please see Blanton Youell or Jessica Hoerter.

Tuesday Tales: (Preschool-5th grade) April 26th at 3:30 p.m. We will be making Mother’s Day gifts, so NO MOMS ALLOWED. Shasta could use a couple of extra hands to help. Let her know if you can be there.

Bob Chilton Memorial Bible Study: We will meet at Pages Bookstore on Thursday, April 28th, at 8:00 a.m. Anyone is welcome to attend.

New Members Class: There will be a class for anyone who would like to learn about becoming a Member at First Presbyterian Church. Join Griff to learn more about the Gospel, the Church, and the Presbyterian Tradition. Please contact Griff if you are interested in attending. Date to be announced.

(1 John 3:18) Would you like to be part of a family-friendly, dynamic, and fun ministry where each of us can serve those less fortunate in our community?
Then check out FPCMA’s new Service Saturday program!

In an effort to spread God’s love through more of our community, FPCMA has revamped Sandwich Saturdays and will now have a Service Saturday every month. We are looking for people to come and volunteer as we give back to our community. We will have a diverse selection of volunteer opportunities for you (and your family) to choose throughout the year. Putting our faith into action is at the very heart of our Christian calling, so please help FPCMA as we look to change lives in our community.

We need your feedback to get this project started. Look for the survey today and take time to fill one out, if you haven’t already. Hearing from you about the organizations/activities that are important to you will help us make Service Saturdays a success. We look forward to hearing from you!

FINANCIAL

The Session thanks God and thanks you for the provision of the church’s financial needs so far this year. We are glad to report that our revenue of $73,733.00 is greater than our expenses of $62,818.44. (We can pay our bills next month!) Thank you for your continued generosity and commitment!

Offering for Hunger and Hope: Next Sunday, May 1st, we will receive our Pennies for Hunger and Yokefellow food offerings. Foods for the month of May are: Macaroni and Cheese and Spaghetti.

Disaster Orientation & Training: The American Red Cross will provide training on Tuesday, April 19th, from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at their local office, 844 Westlake Drive, Mount Airy.

WoW Fellowship: Come and spend some time with WOW this month, April 21st at 7:00 p.m. in the Scout Hut as we prepare boxes of cookies and make cards for our homebound members. Help us let our homebound members know how much they mean to us and our church. Please make or buy 24 of your favorite cookies to prepare the boxes. Card making supplies will be provided. You will be assigned homebound members to visit at your convenience over the weekend. Check out the WoW Facebook page to sign up to bring different varieties of cookies. There is also a signup sheet on the bulletin board in the foyer. If you have any questions, email Jessica at hoerters@gmail.com.

Blue Ridge CareNet Suicide Prevention Workshop: Tuesday, April 12th, from 8:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall. The daylong session is open to individuals such as counselors, nurses, funeral directors and leaders/staff of any church, with those in other fields who could benefit from the program also welcome to attend. The cost of the workshop is $25, which includes a box lunch. Registration can be arranged with Barbara Saulpaugh at 336-716-0854.

Beacon Mission Trip: Shasta must have a FIRM verbal commitment by Wednesday, April 13th, if you plan to go.

Lead Teacher Needed for First Steps: First Presbyterian Church seeks to hire a lead teacher to begin, First Steps, a new childcare program that nurtures the spiritual and social lives of toddlers. If you are interested in learning more about the position and the new program, please contact Griff Gatewood (griff@fpcma.com) or Amy Heath (amyr33@gmail.com). We will be taking applications for the position until April 15th.

Duke Divinity School Intern: Joel Boersma will be our Pastoral Intern for ten weeks this summer. He will join the life of our congregation by preaching, assisting in worship, helping lead a Bible Study, and various other ways. Look for an email or letter introducing Joel. In the meantime, he needs a place to live for ten weeks this summer starting in late May.
