CHURCH MINISTRIES

A Congregational Meeting and the Annual Meeting of the Church Corporation will be held today immediately following worship to review the 2016 budget, celebrate highlights of our church’s ministry in 2015, elect Officers of the Corporation for the year and approve the changes to the Pastor’s Terms of Call.

The Flowers in the Church today are given to the Glory of God and in honor of Shasta Bode-Brown in her faithfulness to the church and best wishes for a speedy recovery.

Our heartfelt sympathy is expressed to Jim and Janice Younger on the death of their nephew, Alan Lee Smith and brother-in-law, Thomas Mills, who passed away recently.

Beacons: (6th-12th grade) Will meet in the Tiki Room (Mark and Shasta’s house) this evening at 5:30 p.m.

Circle 1: Will meet on Tuesday, March 1st, at 10:00 a.m. at Ridgecrest Retirement Center in the Card Room. (*Please note different location*)

Lent Lessons/Faith Friends: (Preschool-5th) Will meet on March 1st at 3:30 p.m.

Choir Rehearsal: Wednesday, March 2nd, 7:30 p.m. in the Choir room. Note that our time has changed.

Easter Lilies are coming: If you are interested in ordering Easter lilies this year, there will be an insert in next week’s bulletin. Watch for it and get your orders in early!

Inclement Weather Policy: It is our intention that all church activities take place as scheduled. However, there are times when the weather makes it difficult to do so. In an attempt to be proactive, FPC has adopted the following policy:

• All decisions concerning the cancellation of Sunday morning and evening activities will be made by the Pastor and Clerk of Session with input from the Director of Christian Education.
• During the week, if the Mount Airy City Schools are closed due to inclement weather, any church activities scheduled for that afternoon or evening will be cancelled.
• A notification of all cancelled church functions will be placed on WXII Channel 12, Facebook, Twitter and the Online Grapevine as soon as soon as possible.

Wednesday Night Supper: Wednesday nights, beginning February 17 and ending March 16. Dinner will be served at 6:00. The nursery will open at 6:30. Programming will end at 7:30. Adult choir practice begins at 7:30.

Cost: $7 for adults. $5 for children; maximum out of pocket cost for a family is $25.

*Volunteers are needed to help set up and serve for the Wednesday night suppers. There is a sign-up sheet on the board in the upstairs foyer. Please sign up to assist with either.*

Children’s Easter Party: Please bring individually wrapped candy and plastic eggs for the Children’s Easter party to be held on Saturday, March 26th. You can drop them off in the box outside of Shasta’s office.

Church Family Photo Board: Check out the board in the upstairs foyer with many pictures of our church family. Do we have a picture of your family? If not, email us a copy at emailfpcma@gmail.com (or drop a hard copy by) so we can add it to the board! We need more pictures – bring or send us a file of yours today!

Women’s Bible Study: March 15th – April 26th; Shasta will be leading a Bible Study for women on Brian McLaren’s book, “The Secret Message of Jesus.” The group will meet at 5:30 at the church. Bring your dinner. Cost of book is $15. Let Shasta know if you are interested.
WITNESS

Friends Feeding Friends: Thursday, March 3rd at 5:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church. The following are signed up to assist: Steven Lowe, Mae Daniels, Paul Belk, Bob Keck, Bob and Sylvia Chilton, Wayne and Joy Barlow and Mike Gatchel.

Offering for Hunger & Hope: Next Sunday, March 6th, we will receive our Pennies for Hunger and Yokefellow food offerings. The foods for the month of March are: Crackers and Peanut Butter.

Annual Chili Lunch

SPChili-logo-and-headerOn a cold cold February day with snow in the forecast what could be better than an warm bowl of CHILI? Nothing!! So let’s all enjoy a variety of chilies – mild, medium, hot, painful, vegetarian, meat lovers, sweet, savory, Tex Mex, Filipino – you name it we’ll probably have it! All we need is for you to fix your favorite pot of chili and bring it to church tomorrow for our Annual Chili Lunch Fundraiser for the Beacon’s summer mission work. CHURCH MINISTRIES

The Flowers in the Church today are given to the Glory of God by Dan, Cathy, Emma and Hunt Harrison.

 

The rose in the sanctuary is given to the Glory of God and in celebration of the birth of Simon Bush, born Wednesday, February 3, 2016. Congratulations to Garrett, Anna, Gavin and Evan.

 

Beacons: Will meet tonight at 6:00 p.m. at the Pequenos. Everyone is asked to bring a dessert or appetizer to share.

 

Tuesday Tales/Faith Friends: Will meet on February 9th at 3:30 p.m.

 

Beacon Mardi Gras Pancake Supper: Tuesday, February 9th from 5:30-6:30; The Beacons are invited to join Shasta for a traditional Pancake supper before we begin the season of Lent. We will meet at Olympia Restaurant. Parents are welcome. Let Shasta know if you will be attending by Sunday afternoon.

Wednesday Night Supper: One of the joys of my first months here at FPCMA was our Fall Wednesday Night Suppers. I hope that our Lenten Wednesday Nights will be just as good. Please join us starting February 10th.

 

Chris Wishart will be cooking for the church on Wednesday nights this Lent. Chris loves to see God work in people’s lives as they sit together and eat good food.

 

After supper, Jason and Jessica Hoerter will lead our children in singing and teach a children’s Bible Lesson. After supper, adults and youth will sing a few worship songs and then read through the Epistle of James. Childcare will be provided for children two and younger beginning at 6:30.

 

When? Wednesday night starting February 10 and ending March 16. Dinner will be served at 6:00. The nursery will open at 6:30. Programming will end at 7:30. Adult choir practice begins at 7:30. **Please note: On Ash Wednesday, February 10, we will have an Ash Wednesday Service at 5:30 followed by dinner at 6:30.

Bob Chilton Bible Study: We will meet at Pages on Thursday, February 11th, at 8:00 a.m. Join us for coffee and spiritual conversation.

 
BREWS at Surry Medical Ministries: Will be taking out old shelving and putting new in – RSVP to Blanton @ blantonyou@gmail.com.

 
Annual Chili Lunch: Join us immediately following worship next Sunday, February 14th. Bring your Valentine and your favorite pot of chili. The more varieties we have, the better. Drinks and desserts will be provided. This is a fundraiser for the Beacons.

 
Special Event: Several Winston-Salem area churches and Christian leaders are coming together to sponsor a weekend of reflection and dialogue on the intersection of faith and culture. Nationally known author and speaker Andy Crouch will be the featured guest. Andy will lead us in exploring the gift of God in culture, the good use of power, and the redemptive tensions of authority and vulnerability.

 
Griff invites you to join him at this event on Friday, February 19th from 7:00-9:00 at First Presbyterian Church in Winston-Salem. Sign up in the upstairs foyer if you are interested.

SOUPer Bowl Challenge

Just a reminder we are collecting cans of soup on Sunday to donate to the Yokefellow Food Pantry. canned-food-2013

This is part of a Souper Bowl challenge between churches in NC and this in Colorado. We’re asking folks to bring in at least 18 cans (one for each Panther win) per person but we’ll take whatever you can share. Remember we who have much must share with those who have little…what an easy way to do that.
