Longest Night Service: This evening at 5:00 p.m.; All are welcome to gather for prayerful worship of Jesus Christ, the Light of the world, who is with us even on this (symbolically) longest and darkest night of the year. Childcare provided for infants through 2nd grade.

Beacon Movie Night: Meet in the Tiki Room at 5:30 p.m. Beth McCrosky and Pepper Mayes will provide dinner.

Children’s Christmas Eve Pageant Rehearsal: Tuesday, December 22nd at 5:00 p.m. in the sanctuary.

Choir Announcements: We will NOT practice on Wednesday, December 23rd. On Sunday, December 27th, we WILL NOT sing an anthem. Enjoy the Christmas season with your family. On Wednesday, December 30th, we will meet in Fellowship Hall for an After-Christmas Social to practice upcoming music for the winter. We will meet at 7:00 p.m. Please bring a snack food.  On December 30th, we will go back to our regular schedule and meet from 7 to 8 pm for practice until further noted (we may have another Bible Study/Fellowship Meal in the spring).

Church Office Closed: The office will be closed December 24th-28th so that the staff may observe the holidays with their families. Merry Christmas!

Christmas Eve Services: Thursday, December 24th; The Children’s Christmas Eve Service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Our Candlelight Communion Service will be held at 7:00 p.m.  Join us for one or both!

Sign-ups for 2016!  Check the board in the upstairs foyer to see all of the sign-up sheets for various ministries of the church.  If you would like to assist in any of the areas, please add your name(s) to the lists!  We especially need volunteers to read scripture and place flowers in the sanctuary for Sunday worship.


2015 Year-End Contributions: All contributions must be received or postmarked by Thursday, December 31, 2015.  If you contribute via eGive, you should receive an email regarding year-end giving.

End of Year Update: Listed below are some highlights we’d like to share with you:

  • Total pledge/non-pledge offerings through 12/18/15:   $207,806.23
  • Projected need to close our year:      $ 16,500.00
  • Total YTD Revenues as of 12/18/15: $212,271.15
  • Total YTD Expenses as of 12/18/15:  $202,599.66 + Projected need = shortfall of $6,828.51

As we come to the end of 2015, we’d like to thank you for your love and support throughout the year – in so many ways.  We are grateful for you and your generous ways of giving, financially and other, so that we are able to provide the programs and ministries that we do.

Stewardship Update: Thank you for your continued commitment to First Presbyterian!  As of today, we have received pledges for 2016 from 67 families in the amount of $208,229.00 towards our goal of $215,000.

Prayers and Praises: Slips are provided in your bulletin for you to list any prayers and praises. Place them in the offering plate or on the board outside the church office.


Confirmation Meeting: (This is the classroom portion of the Confirmation process for the youth of the church that have not been confirmed and are in at least the 6th grade.) We will meet at 4:00 p.m. this afternoon in the Odds and Ends Room.

Beacon Dinner & Angel Tree Gift Shopping: Meet at the Lighthouse at 5:00 p.m. We will go out for dinner and then go shopping for Angel Tree gifts. Bring money for dinner and $20 towards the gift. Let Shasta know if you’re planning to come.

Monday Scriptures: December 7th at 11:00 a.m. Join Shasta and others as they delve into the scriptures. All women of the church are invited.

Get Ready! Get Set! Worship! Monday, December 7th, 5:00 p.m.; This is a faith formation class for our older Faith Friends (3rd-5th grade) to help better prepare them for life in the church. We will meet in the Odds & Ends Room.

Congregational Prayer Time: Monday, December 7th, 7:00-7:45 p.m. Everyone is welcome to come and join the elders in praying for the church. We will meet in the sanctuary.

Stroke Support Group: Monday, December 7th, at 7:00 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall.

Wednesday Night Activities: December 9th; 6:00 p.m. We will have dinner and will have a Christmas Carol sing & Cookie Swap afterwards. Bring two dozen cookies to share.

Bob Chilton Bible Study: Will meet on Thursday, December 10th, 8:00 a.m. at Pages Bookstore. All are welcome to join us.

Faith Friends/Thursday Tales: (Preschool-5th grade) Will meet on December 10th at 3:30 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall. Join us as we have story time, crafts and learn more about applying our faith and understanding of God to life around us.

Gifts in a Jar Fundraiser: The Beacons will be selling these for the holidays. All monies and orders must be turned in TODAY. See Shasta or one of the Beacons if you would like to order any.

B.R.E.W.S. & W.o.W. Fellowship Mixer: Both groups will gather for a family-friendly event at the Youell’s house on Friday, December 11th, from 6:30-9:00 p.m. Please RSVP by TOMORROW (Dec 7) to Blanton by calling him at (804) 304-2346 or emailing him at blantonyou@gmail.com.

Friends Feeding Friends: Thursday, December 10th at First Baptist Church. Signed up to assist are: Steven Lowe, Paul Belk, Lydia Taylor, Mike Gatchel, Joy & Wayne Barlow, Bob Keck and Bob & Sylvia Chilton. Desserts will be provided by: Lydia Taylor, Joy Barlow, Sylvia Chilton, Peggy Rees and Valerie Parker.


Stewardship Update: We are excited that we have almost reached our goal of $215,000 in pledges. You have pledged $189,000! We are over 86% on the way to our goal. Thank you!

Help us close the gap by sending in your pledge or calling the church office. We need to raise $26,000. It would be fantastic if we could do this by the end of this week as we put the final touches on our budget for 2016.

We are excited by the progress that we have made and are thankful to God for his continued provision for our congregation.
