Congratulations!

Finally – the day is here!  A baby is born!

Samuel Sullivan Evans, son of Vann and Margaret Evans, was born today just before 5:00 p.m.  He weighed 8 pounds, 2 oz.

The proud grandparents are Rob and Lavinia Evans.  We celebrate this wonderful occasion with them!

Interested in Playing Handbells? Anna Bush is looking for 3 or 4 volunteers to play a special song on Sunday, December 14th. If you are interested, please let her know. It doesn’t take a lot of knowledge, just a desire and interest to play. Sign-up sheets are in the upstairs foyer & also outside the choir room downstairs.

Presbytery Sole Hope Event: Join us for a fun mission event where “The power to ‘heel’ is in the jeans.” Registration is due by next Sunday, November 9th. Check the website for more info: http://www.solehope.org.

Church-wide Thanksgiving Feast: Sunday, November 23rd; Immediately following worship, we will come together & share all the things we’re thankful for! Bring your favorite side dish & dessert.

Time To Turn Those Clocks Back

On Saturday evening, November 1st (well, actually really early Sunday morning!), Daylight Savings Time ends.  So, before you go to bed, DON’T FORGET to set those clocks back by ONE HOUR!

While you’re at it, check the batteries in your smoke detectors too!

Want to know more about “Being Presbyterian?” Every first Sunday at 10:00 a.m. there is an adult forum led by Rob based on the book, Presbyterian Answers, Presbyterian Questions, by Donald Kim. Discussion is based on huge topics of faith like: God, Jesus Christ, the Bible, Salvation, Church, etc. and looks at them from a Presbyterian/Reformed perspective. The class is lively & fun & meets in the Fellowship Hall. Join us next Sunday, November 2nd!

The Flowers in the Church last week were given to the Glory of God and in loving memory of Fred Branch and Dale Hughes by Mike, Kim and Mariah Branch.

A Congregational meeting will be held immediately following worship. The recommendation from the Nominating Committee is that the following persons be nominated and elected to serve as members of the Session: Class of 2015 (1-yr) Aimy McCrosky (Youth Elder), Jack McCluskey (Youth Elder); Class of 2016 (2-yr) Linda Hodges; Class of 2017 (3-yr)Steven Lowe, David Whitfield, Derek Higgs, Blanton Youell, and Wayne Barlow.

Beacons to Corn Maze: Meet at the Lighthouse at 5:00 (note time chg). Cost is $6.00. This includes the maze, a snack, hayride, and a pumpkin.

Beacons Halloween Carnival Planning Meeting: Monday, October 20th; 7:00 p.m. in the Lighthouse. If you can help with the carnival, it is VERY important that you attend this brief meeting.

Thursday Tales & Joyful Noise Choir Practice: October 23rd; Our Faith Friends (Preschool-5th grade) will meet downstairs at 3:30 p.m. followed by choir practice.

Faith Friends Halloween Carnival: Saturday, October 25th – 6-8 pm; The Beacons will be hosting a carnival for the children of the church and their friends. There will be games, prizes to win and a hotdog supper fundraiser. Put on your best costume, bring Mom and Dad, and join us! NOTE: The Beacons are in need of individually wrapped candy for the carnival. If you can provide any, please drop it off by the church before Friday, October 24th. Thank you!

Autumn Leaves Parking & Pumpkins: Today is the last day! The proceeds will go to the 2015 Beacon Mission trip & to feed the hungry in our community during Thanksgiving. Come out & support the Beacons in their efforts!

Beacons: Will not meet this evening due to the festival.

Choir Retreat: October 18th – 11-3 p.m. Covered dish lunch, then we will practice on music, including Christmas. All are welcome. Details are on the board outside the choir room.

CHURCH MINISTRIES

Presbyterian Questions/Presbyterian Answers: Our Super Spark is held on the first Sunday of each month at 10:00 in the Fellowship Hall. It is led by our interim pastor, Rob Evans. It is a great way to address relevant questions of faith & life from a Presbyterian perspective. All are welcome!

Today is World Communion Sunday! It is a day when Christians around the world come together to feast at the table of God. The breads you will have today represent the breads our Brothers and Sisters in Christ will have at their tables today. We thank Jane Rountree for preparing them for us today.

Bible in a Year Lunch: Join us immediately following worship today for our monthly discussion. Bring your lunch with you.

Beacons: Will not meet this evening.

Bob Chilton Memorial Bible Study: Thursday, October 9th; 8:00 a.m. at Pages Bookstore.
