Hello My Good FPC Mount Airy Friends!!

I hope everyone has had a good week, and enjoying the sunshine and the longer days!!  It’s truly been a long winter!  Shelley’s poetic line rings true, I think:  “If Winter comes, can Spring be far behind?”  We’re certainly closer and we’re grateful for that!!

I write to remind you of an opportunity in church life that doesn’t come along that often, a chance to have input into the future of the congregation that is your church home.  As you have seen and heard, the chance to do this lies in a very special opportunity during the month of March by attending a small group Cottage Meeting, either here at the church or in the home of a fellow member.  I will lead each of these groups in a time of sharing and mutual discernment.

Why such a thing, you ask?  It is necessary?  As your interim pastor I believe it is very important for us to engage one another, to let as many people speak about FPC – its mission, your hopes and dreams for the church, your affirmations of it, your concerns for it, etc!  It is equally important also for us to have the opportunity to listen to others, for somewhere in the mix of speaking and listening, praying and reflecting upon Scripture, we have a better chance of hearing what God might be saying to us, which is the most important thing of all! Such is the sole purpose of these meetings, to be engaged together in the Spirit of our Lord in smaller settings to do these things.  I promise you, it will be time well spent and hopefully inspiring!

People have volunteered their homes and their hospitality; The Transition Committee and I simply encourage your participation. This coming Sunday, March 2, there will be opportunity for you to choose a meeting to attend if you have not already done so.  At this point two scheduled meetings are full (we are trying to keep them at 15 people and under), but there still are a variety of times and places for you to make the commitment and be a part of this process!  I look forward to seeing you there!!

Happy and blessed to be your pastor for a “time!”

Grace & Peace!

Lenten Bible Study

Lent 2014
Bible Studies for Everyone

Our Lenten Bible study series begins on March 12, with dinner at 5:45 and Bible study beginning at 6:30. So come join us as we grow in our relationship with God and each other.

Beacons: “What He Said” Will explore the seven sayings of Christ from the cross. They will engage these sayings through scripture, music, art and more. This will be a very interactive Bible Study.

Adults: “Embracing a Life of Meaning” This year’s Lenten study will be led by our Interim Pastor, Rob Evans. Beginning Wednesday, March 12, we will explore together the topic, “Embracing a Life of Meaning.” Well known writer/poet, Kathleen Norris, leads the video portion, prompting thoughts and ensuing discussion on the following topics:

Belief Matters, The Bible Matters, Community Matters,
Place Matters, We Matter

A study guide is available at $12.95 and would greatly enhance participation and discussion. If interested in purchasing, please let us know, so we can order enough copies. This promises to be an excellent study and you are invited to make it a part of your Lenten journey!

The study/discussion will be from 6:30-7:30 each Wednesday evening beginning March 12 – April 9. Child care will be available for Preschool – 5th grade. The cost of dinner is $5 per sperson.

In order to plan properly for adult study please fill out the form below and drop it in the offering plate.
