****************

Dear members and friends of First Presbyterian Church,

Fall certainly is an exciting time of the year in Mt. Airy, with football games, changing leaves, and festivals. This year you can add to this of exciting things list our annual stewardship campaign. It may seem odd to be excited about our fall discipleship, but I’m sure once you read this letter you may just get excited too.

As preparation for the upcoming calendar year the Session has created a vision for 2014. Each of the session clusters, GROW, SERVE and EQUIP has created a Vision Statement for 2014. This Vision Statement describes in both broad strokes and fine detail the kind of faith community our church leadership feels that God is calling us to be in the new year.

Each ministry team will share their part of the Vision for the next year during worship, beginning Sept. 29th and the two Sundays following. Our Discipleship journey will culminate with our Dedication Sunday on October 20th.

Enclosed you will find the 2014 Vision Statement brochure detailing the Session’s vision for 2014, along with a Pledge Card. We ask that you prayerfully consider your support for this vision by committing to be a regular contributor or even increasing your pledged giving to the church. In broad financial terms, this vision represents a 7% increase above the 2013 budget. A copy of the 2014 budget, approved by the session, is readily available on the information table across from the upstairs kitchen, or by contacting Lynn at the church office.

In order to fulfill this vision it will take the support of all of us. Will you join us in being a part of fulfilling this vision and be a part of the excitement?

Yours in Christ,

Tom McCluskey and Hampton Hatcher
Discipleship Co-Moderators

NEXT Church comes to FPCMA on Oct. 5th!

We are excited about hosting the 2013 NEXT Church Regional Conference on Saturday, October 5th!  This conference, part of the NEXT Church, is for ministers, elders, church educators, lay leaders, and church members from Presbyterian churches all over North Carolina and parts of Virginia and South Carolina.  We expect over 150 people to attend!

What, you’re wondering, is “NEXT Church?”

NEXT Church is a network of leaders across the Presbyterian Church (USA) who believe the church of the future will be more relational, more diverse, more collaborative, and more hopeful. We provide space for robust conversations about the theology, culture, and the practice of ministry, to serve as a catalyst for new mission callings, and to support strong leadership in a time of adaptive change. We are fostering a conversation about how to follow Christ in our particular day and age. We are a movement seeking to change the culture of connection in the PC(USA) so that we continue to share faithfully the good news of the gospel in ways that bear fruit in a fractured world.

As a member of FPCMA, don’t miss the opportunity to be part of this great experience right here in our own backyard.  The cost of the conference is $30 and includes lunch.  You can register by going to: http://2013nextmidatlanticevent.eventbrite.com/

To learn more about NEXT Church, visit www.nextchurch.net.  You can also read/watch the sermon “What Is NEXT Church” by Rev. Tom Are.  And join the Facebook event HERE.
