Impact Story – Jessica Hoerter

(In August, church members began sharing “Impact Stories” in worship – the ways in which this church has impacted their life and the life of those they love. We hope you are moved by these gifts of grace! If you are interested in sharing your Impact Story, please let Steve know.)

We were a family searching for the church that we knew we wanted. The right place for our three small children to be nurtured and learn about Christ, and a church where Jason and I were also nurtured. In our hearts, we longed for a church where we felt home.

Then, it was just like God to set the wheels in motion without our knowing or realizing how His plan for our family was coming together. Early last spring, I came across this church’s Facebook page, which led me to your website where I subscribed to get the weekly sermon in my email. I started reading the sermons and started sharing them with Jason. I became excited to read them and felt that little tug from God asking me if this wasn’t the place we had been looking for? I even had a heartfelt church-chat with our pediatrician who attends. After a few months, we finally decided we’d come to a Sunday morning service and see what it was all about. The night before our first visit I prayed that God would lead us where He had planned for our family.

What we experienced our first visit was not what we had expected; it was more. We encountered — joy. This congregation was happy to be in the house of God; it wasn’t just a formality. We saw smiling faces and were warmly welcomed. Most importantly, we felt the presence of God and felt as if we were (finally) home. We’ve haven’t looked back since. I have joked with Jason that “you had us at hello” (a throwback to the movie Jerry Maguire) but we were overwhelmed with the good that we felt from the very first second. As we joined this church today, we did so knowing that God led us exactly where He wanted us, here at First Presbyterian.
