The sympathy of the congregation is extended to the family of long-time member Katy Keys, who died yesterday evening.

There will be a service to the witness of the resurrection on Saturday, November 24th at 1:00pm at First Presbyterian Church. A short graveside service will follow.  Following the graveside service, the family will receive friends at at reception at Ridgecrest Retirement Center in Mount Airy.

Thankful

It’s quiet in the office today as I put the finishing touches on Sunday’s sermon (which, incidentally, will be my last in the “Living Biblically” sermon series I began way back in August). Lynn and Shasta are already off on well-deserved vacations.  I hope to join my own family soon after lunch, so that we can spend time together and give thanks for the many, many things we have to be thankful for.

In my morning devotion time I came upon this wonderful hymn of ours that I believe captures it all:

Now thank we all our God, with heart and hands and voices

Who Wondrous things hath done, in whom the world rejoices

Who, from our mother’s arms, hath blessed us on our way

With countless gifts of love, and still is ours today.

My prayers to each of you: that you will enjoy a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday wherever you are; that you will take time to meditate and pray on those “wondrous things God hath done” in your life, in our community, and in our world.  Our God is a great God, and we indeed have so much to be thankful for!

I hope to see you this Sunday, along with family and friends – what an awesome way to spend Thanksgiving Sunday, in worship!   Incidentally, Sunday’s sermon will be my last in the “Year of Living Biblically” sermon series I began way back in August (for a quick note about that, and a very cool email I got from the book’s author, please click HERE).

To those of you out of town, traveling mercies!

Grace, peace, and thanksgiving,
