Archive for June, 2012

With the weather being as hot as it is, now is the perfect time to remember those less fortunate and offer them a helping hand in the spirit of Christ.

Tomorrow is the first Sunday of the month, which means we’ll be collecting our Offering For Hunger and Hope in worship.  Please bring your Cents-A-Bility offering, as well as your food donation for the month.  This month the food donation is: cooking oil and canned fruit.

Jesus once said, “Inasmuch as you’ve done it to the least of these, you’ve done it to me.”  Thank you for being a wonderful witness of Jesus Christ in the world!

This “pastoral musing” is really not mine at all – it’s a letter from the Lowe family.  As you recall, Steven had a stroke back a few months ago that threw their family into a very challenging time.  Their struggles were eased, though, by the tremendous response from you, their church family.  Steven and Annette gave me this letter at church yesterday and asked me to read it to the congregation, which I did.

I’m going to resist the minister’s temptation to comment too much on their letter – their words far exceed anything I could say, anyway.  I will say this: things like this are just one of the many joys I have serving as your pastor.  It is obvious that you love each other immensely.  Thank you for being the caring body of Christ that you are!

Dear Friends at First Presbyterian Church,

Thank you for the way you have reached out to help our family since Steven had a stroke.  We have been humbled and overwhelmed by the kindness that has been extended to us.  Darrell Evans wrote a song called, “Your Love Is Extravagant,” and that is just the way we feel we have been cared for by our church.  We have been well-fed with wonderful meals and have received numerous cards, phone calls, hospital visits and offers to help with anything we may need.  Jeff Eads helped build the ramps into our house, and the Godwins and Baileys have been a constant source of strength and support.  The countless prayers, hugs and words of encouragement from all of you are so appreciated!

We are so thankful to be a part of such a wonderful and caring church community.  Thank you, First Presbyterian Church – for your love is extravagant!

Much love,

Steven, Annette, Emily and Kayla Lowe

The following was a Minute for Discipleship given in worship yesterday by Bruce Arnold, our church’s treasurer:

Good Morning!

Summer is a busy family time with special activities for the kids and possibly a traveling vacation. As you enjoy the summer break please do not forget your church giving. Mail or drop your monthly contributions to the church office or sign-up for EGive. As Mike Beal said last month, signing up for EGive is a really simple process. Simply go to egive.com, register and start your electronic contributions. The amount can be set as a one time gift or a recurring monthly gift with a selected payment date and amount.

Contributions received by the church lag behind the budget during the summer months. I simply want to remind you about consistent monthly giving as it helps us meet monthly payroll expenses and the other monthly needs of the church. Our Line of Credit balance, which was paid off by this time last year, still remains at $10,000. Overall giving compared to the church budget is lagging behind. Many of the church expenses are fixed, or are incurred every month. Consistent monthly giving helps us pay these expenses.

Thank you!

Bruce

EGIVE FAQ:

How do I get started with online giving? Go to www.fpcma.com and click on the eGive link. This will take you to the eGive website where you may setup an eGive account to give to FPCMA. You may monitor your tithe or offering to the church by signing into your eGive account. You may also change your tithe or offering at any time from the convenience of your home computer.

Is eGiving safe? Yes! The Automated Clearing House (ACH) network is a nationwide electronic payments system used by more than 20,000 financial institutions, 4 million corporations, and 135 million consumers.

What are the benefits of online giving? 1. You are taking a step of faith. When you sign up to eGive you are deciding in advance to faithfully give. 2. You will simplify your life. You won’t have to remember whether you gave this month or need to send in an offering by mail. 3. Everyone who gives online makes our record keeping much easier. You will also help the church keep up its cash flow during the summer vacation months. 4. You can focus on worship during the offering at church instead of fumbling with your wallet, purse or offering envelope.

Can I give by credit card? We have chosen to set up online giving through electronic funds transfer rather than credit card for two primary reasons: With electronic transfer, your entire gift goes to the church. When using a credit card, as much as 4% of your gift would go to the credit card company.

How can I keep a record of the amount I have contributed? You will receive email confirmation of all your gifts and your bank statement will also include an itemized list of automatic gifts given from your account. A contribution statement will be mailed to you from the church.

Is there a charge from my bank if I choose to use eGive online? No.

Online giving cards are also available and are located in the baskets at the sanctuary entrances. You may place them in the offering plate.
