Beginning the first Sunday of Lent – February 26th – our church will change the way it orchestrates the prayer list of the congregation. Rather than print a list of names in the Sunday bulletin, we will have a Prayer & Praise Board.

****************
The Prayer/Praise Board is located on the second floor of First Presbyterian Church, right outside the church office.
WHAT IT DOES:
The Prayer/Praise Board will take the place of the older Prayer List that appeared in the Sunday morning bulletin and on the smaller bulletin board at the top of the stairs. The hope is, by making it more visual and interactive, the membership will engage it more fully. In addition, the board will focus on prayer beyond people’s names.
The board will contain both prayers and praises – prayer requests (like for those who are ill, facing surgery, etc.) as well as broader prayers (prayers for peace around the world, etc). In addition, the board will be used for praises and celebrations (a high school student getting into college, a biopsy that turned up negative, etc.) All prayers and praises must refrain from putting down or directly/indirectly denigrating another.
HOW IT WORKS:
Anyone can write a simple prayer request on the prayer cards – an individual’s name, a situation, a praise, etc. These people must also write their own name on the back of the card for reference. Then they can pin these cards anywhere on the bulletin board.
Members at any time can look over the board, making note of the prayers and praises in their own spiritual walk.
At the end of every month, Lynn will remove all the cards from the board and place in the index card box on the table beside the board. These cards will be listed in alphabetical order based on the person who wrote them (the name on the back). At any time, that person can re-post the card to the board. The purpose of removing the cards is to make sure that the list stays current and fresh, as well as to encourage church membership to actively engage the board.
When the person feels that their prayer/praise card is no longer needed, they can simply discard.
